A Day As Tourists

Dailey and I had a great adventure this past Saturday. We had been wanting to go to Central Park since we’ve lived here and decided to go for a picnic lunch. We took some fruit and bought a lamb gyro (so yummy) on the way. It took a little walking around the park to find a grassy place where we could sit since most of the grass areas were blocked off. Finally, we found a nice spot near a creek, which we soon discovered to be the home of many interesting little characters. Apparently the birds are fully aware that they are very cute and can use that to their advantage with humans. Many came in search of food from us, and I happened to have taken some crackers that they all loved. Then a family of geese came. Then the ducks that were searching for something on the bottom of the pond…and kept showing us their bottoms. After lunch, we walked around and saw lots of squirrels, turtles, a huge goldfish and an egret. Also dumb pigeons that ran off the other smaller birds.

After the park, we headed over to the new Apple store in Midtown, Manhattan to see what all the cool kids were talking about. The entrance was a huge glass cube with the Apple logo suspended in the middle. The inside was the same as all the other stores, crowded with people and computers. It was a nice experience though, especially for Dailey.

Then we saw FAO Swarz and decided to have a look. I’d been to one, but Dailey hadn’t. It was quite amazing. We saw huge stuffed animals, tons of candy, a $15,000 gas-powered PowerWheels (for those rich styling young Yorkers), a life size Lego Chewbaca, and even a little soda shop in the middle that served almost anything made primarily of sugar. That’s of course the best thing to give your child just before he runs off into a toy store wanting all the most expensive play things he’s ever seen. I think the only thing our little baby Crafton could afford from this place would be a few pieces of candy. However I did see the cutest diaper tote for $200 if any of you are looking to impress me with a nice shower gift. ; )

We ended the evening with a few delicious hot dogs and headed home. It was a great day for the Crafton three! : )
